District Six Installs Warning Light Upgrades on Incident Response Vehicles

The District Six Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) Office is upgrading its
fleet of Incident Response Vehicles (IRV) with new strobe lights to improve truck visibility and responder
safety during active scenes.

IRV trucks have amber warning lights on all sides of the vehicle that flash when activated on scene. This
includes four amber strobe lights located at the back of each vehicle. This upgrade is adding two red
strobe lights and changing the existing rear amber strobe lights to red. The trucks now feature a total of
six red strobe lights at the rear of each unit. The new color and design pattern is making the trucks more
visible to drivers who are approaching an active scene. This vehicle upgrade is improving the district’s
advanced alert to drivers to move over a lane or slow down for incident responders.

The project is being completed as part of a statewide initiative to improve roadway safety. It is set to
improve maintenance of traffic efforts for all incident responders in the field. District Six will soon begin
installation on the Road Ranger vehicle fleet.
