District Six Uses Trends Data to Measure COVID-19’s Effect on Traffic

The Florida Department of Transportation District Six Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TSM&O) Office is monitoring traffic patterns to provide a more responsive approach to traffic management during the pandemic.

Staff is using recent historical data to provide context on traffic levels before and during the pandemic. Using innovative data analysis tools, like Microsoft Power BI, TMC staff have created an interactive dashboard for the FDOT executive team and FDOT’s local partners to better understand the virus’s impact on traffic volumes. This data is helpful when planning construction activities, for understanding how many people are using the roadways during stay-at-home orders and analyzing increasing traffic volumes as the region continues its phased reopening plan.

FDOT’s data-centric solutions help roadway managers and local partners monitor the impacts of COVID-19 on the region and helps them serve the public during this time.
