District Six Promotes Responder Safety, Participates in National Crash Responder Safety Week 2023
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six TSM&O Office is
committed to promoting responder safety in southeast Florida. It conducts various
initiatives throughout the year to raise awareness about the importance of safe driving.
The TSM&O Office recently participated in the Federal Highway Administration’s
(FHWA) Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW) campaign that took place November
13th through November 17th. The District created a series of initiatives that amplified its
national message to our local community.
FHWA launches the campaign every year to remind motorists that responder safety is
everyone’s responsibility. It spearheads the initiative to provide state and district offices
with a safety message to disseminate through their respective platforms. The goal is to
humanize these brave workers and put a face behind the uniform so that everyone can
arrive home safely. District Six created a five-day social media campaign with video
testimonials featuring Florida Highway Patrol Troop ‘E’, FDOT’s Road Rangers, and
Incident Response Vehicle Managers. The videos were crafted to follow the theme and
hashtags created by FHWA for each day of the campaign week; ‘Protect Those Who
Protect You’, ‘Driver Education’, ‘Responder Training’, ‘More Than a Crash’, and ‘Slow
Down, Move Over’. The campaign was published in the District’s social media channels
to positive reaction from the public. The District also participated in a regional media
event co-hosted by Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise and FDOT District Four, posted public
service announcements on its dynamic message signs, published news flash items on
www.sunguide.info, and produced articles for FDOT’s statewide newsletters.
CRSW is part of FHWA’s ongoing efforts to safeguard first responders in the field. It
launched in November 2016 to provide state offices with a safety campaign that kicks
off the holiday travel season every year. It consists of an educational toolkit that
features daily themes, sample content, and other recommended initiatives. This
strategic effort has allowed state offices to disseminate a unified message across all
regions of the United States and has thus increased driver awareness about responder
safety. District Six will continue to participate in the campaign and support its mission in
southeast Florida. For more information about CRSW, please visit the official page at:
