Transportation Organization Recognizes FDOT for Joint Bridge Repair Project

The South Florida Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (SFITE) awarded FDOT District Six and Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) with their inaugural Transportation Achievement Award.

The award was created in 2023 to recognize outstanding project teams that use innovative strategies to improve our regional roadway system. SFITE recognized FDOT and FTE for their exemplary teamwork in completing the Emergency Bridge Repair Project earlier this year. The project demonstrated how a quick and comprehensive response action plan from these two agencies resulted in the successful repair of a bridge located in the Golden Glades Interchange in Miami-Dade County. It showed how the agencies navigated through complex issues such as securing emergency funding, expediting the request for proposal and contractor award process, creating detour routes, monitoring traffic through innovative technology, and keeping the public informed about real-time traffic conditions to ensure driver and worker safety during this critical time. SFITE recognized the team for going above and beyond their regular duties to repair the bridge and reopen traffic in record time. The award was presented to FDOT District Six Secretary, Ms. Stacy Miller, P.E., at the annual meeting in Miami, Florida.
