Miami-Dade County TIM Team Hosts Palmetto Corridor Meeting

The FDOT District Six Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) Office hosted the Miami-Dade Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Team – Palmetto Corridor Meeting on August 19, 2026.

This meeting promotes face-to-face interagency communication between incident managers who support roadways located in the western part of the county, including State Road (S.R.) 826, Palmetto Express, I-75, 75 Express, Okeechobee Road, and Krome Avenue. It gives stakeholders the opportunity to share and discuss critical information about their programs and projects such as lessons learned, TIM best practices, construction timelines, upcoming lane closures, and special events. The goal is to inform partners about potential traffic impacts and TIM challenges in advance to identify solutions, mitigate congestion and promote safe travel in the region.  The meeting was held in the Hialeah Gardens Police Training Facility and was attended by representatives from FDOT District Six, District Four, Miami-Dade Transit, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Florida Division of Emergency Management, and private towing vendors.

The FDOT District Six TSM&O Office informed attendees about their latest initiatives. This included a debriefing on the traffic management activities to support the FIFA World Cup 2026, such as providing on-site traffic management support at Miami Stadium, dispatching additional Road Ranger resources, deploying portable cameras to improve monitoring capabilities along NW 27 Avenue, and displaying special messaging on regional dynamic message signs. Additional updates were provided about the tolling status for Palmetto Express, the installation of changeable message boards on 12 Road Ranger vehicles, and an update on the Wrong Way Vehicle Detection System deployment.

A representative from the Golden Glades Interchange (GGI) Enhancement Project highlighted the status and key benefits including the construction of 34 new bridges, additional lanes, upgraded lighting, and the installation of 50,000 feet of new drainage. The project is scheduled for and is slated to improve regional mobility along this major interchange that connects five state roadways in Miami-Dade County.  A representative from the U.S. 27/S.R. 25/Okeechobee Road Reconstruction Project gave a progress update. This is a 10-mile project divided into seven segments from S.R. 826 to the Miami-Dade/Broward County Line. Segment Two (NW 107 Avenue to NW 116 Way/Hialeah Gardens Boulevard) was completed this year and added a second-level overpass, constructed four new bridges, and upgraded traffic signals. Segment Three (NW 87 Avenue to NW 74 Avenue including the S.R. 826 interchange) is under construction and scheduled for completion in 2030. The presentations were followed by an open discussion session that allowed attendees to ask questions and share information such as upcoming trainings and events.

The TIM Team divided Miami-Dade County into the I-95 corridor (east) and the Palmetto corridor (west) to target traffic issues according to their respective areas and stakeholders. These corridor meetings are part of a larger series of annual regional meetings including two meetings in Monroe County and two collaborative regional meetings with the Broward County TIM Team.
