ITS Florida Recognizes District Six Maintenance Staff
The Intelligent Transportation Society of Florida (ITS Florida) recognized District Six consultant staff member, Mr. Gabriel Ramirez, with the “ITS Field Technician of the Year” Award in September. The award recognizes front-line employees who work to keep our roadways safe on a daily basis.
ITS Maintenance works as the backbone to traffic operations. Device availability is critical to incident detection and clearance. Field technicians are dispatched on a daily basis to fix traffic devices and maintain program availability. District Six relies on thousands of devices to manage traffic and continues to expand its network to cover more roadways. Mr. Ramirez was recognized by his supervisors and peers for playing a key role in the program’s success. He joined the team 12 years ago as an ITS Maintenance Technician and quickly ascended to Senior Technician thanks to his engineering knowledge and work ethic. He is often sought after by his team to help with critical tasks because of his vast skills and experience. Besides being a professional engineer in his native country, he has advanced his skills by attaining additional certifications in the ITS Facility Management System (ITSFM) software, the intermediate level on Maintenance of Traffic (MOT), and the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level 1 for Traffic Signals.
This gained knowledge has allowed Gabriel to play a key role in some of the District’s most important projects, such as the Monroe County Traffic Signal System, the Statewide Wireless System to Traffic Signal System on Emerald Drive, and the infrastructure upgrade of State Road 826 Project which handled over 50,000 feet of fiber optic cable. He executed each task to successful results and set the precedence for new procedures.
The District Six TSM&O Office is proud that Mr. Ramirez was recognized by one of the industry’s leading organizations and will continue to support all team members to achieve success.
