Sergio Bravo Wins Innovator of the Year Award, Gets Promoted to New Role!
FDOT District Six recognized Mr. Sergio Bravo P.E with the prestigious “Innovator of the Year” Award. He was selected for this honor because he went above and beyond his regular duties to implement an innovative alert system for the Warning Gate System (WGS) that uses Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) technology to alert road users when select entrance ramps are open or closed to traffic on 95 Express.
Mr. Bravo researched the technology and worked with the WGS manufacturer to procure, install, and launch the digital alert system on the gates. As a result, drivers who are signed up for traffic mobile applications such as WAZE and vehicles that are equipped with V2I capabilities are notified when the ramps are closed. This additional layer of traveler information is empowering drivers to make more informed decisions and improve safety for all users.
Mr. Bravo has been at the forefront of the TSM&O industry for over 25 years. His extensive knowledge of the industry and contributions to District Six have been invaluable. He played a key role in the creation of the District’s TSM&O Program as well as in the construction of the SunGuide Transportation Management Center. Thanks to his longstanding work, he was promoted to the position of TSM&O Engineer – Arterials . In his new role, he will oversee the operations and maintenance of new and existing arterial projects. He will continue the District’s efforts to optimize the safety and mobility of our local roadways and launch innovative strategies to help the region become future-ready for additional demand. In this regard, he will oversee operations and maintenance for the Monroe County Traffic Signal System and arterial incident management efforts.
The District Six TSM&O Office is proud of Mr. Bravo’s accomplishments and is looking forward to working with him in his new role.
