District Six Participates in Regional Transportation Conference, Shares Lessons Learned
The FDOT District Six Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) Office participated in the 2018 ITS 5C Summit in Jacksonville in October.
The event brought together over 600 transportation professionals from eight states to learn and discuss the latest topics in the industry. The theme was “Coming Together to Address the Challenges of Connecting Cars, Communities and Citizens” and featured various technical sessions given by experts in the transportation field. Many sessions featured emerging technologies such as connected and autonomous vehicles.
District Six had a strong showing. The event committee selected four staff members from the team to present about their projects and initiatives. The selected presentations included the Operations Task Manager (OTM) software, Maintaining Operations During Hurricane Irma, Safety Improvements on 95 Express and the Human Factor of Managed Lanes. Staff members had the opportunity to discuss their projects and share their lessons learned. They answered pertinent questions about their projects and learned from other presenters as well. The presentations were well-received since the topics are timely as other programs are implementing similar projects and are facing similar challenges.
The event was a great opportunity for District Six to impart its experience and in turn, work toward the betterment of the industry. It allowed staff to network at a peer-to-peer level to collaborate on ideas and innovations while seeing the latest developments in technology as well as in the overall industry. The District Six TSM&O Office is committed to participating in these events since they keep the team knowledgeable and informed on current trends.
