District Six Wins ITS Florida’s Outstanding Achievement
The Florida Department of Transportation District Six’s Transportation Management Center (TMC) was recognized by the Intelligent Transportation Society (ITS) of Florida with the Outstanding Achievement Award at the annual conference in Jacksonville this week.
The award-winning project – the redesign and retrofit of the TMC – was selected from several worthy nominations in a statewide competition. Although the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) office led the effort for this very innovative and rapidly delivered project, many groups were instrumental in ensuring success including program management, procurement, financial services, design and construction.
The redesign TMC control room was undertaken to ensure the TMC’s ability to meet the growing traffic and congestion management demands of region. The TMC was transformed from a linear, eight workstation model, to a pod-based model for improved collaboration with 18 workstations and multiple support desks. The workstations were equipped with state of the art equipment and the room’s video wall also increased in size. These improvements are helping support the Center’s operational and strategies, and will also ensure capacity to safely operate future projects including Palmetto Express and Phase 2 of 95 Express.
