FDOT District Six completes multi-phase screen replacement at SunGuide TMC
The Florida Department of Transportation District Six recently completed the planned upgrade of the SunGuide Transportation Management Center’s video wall.
The District replaced the wall’s previous controller, which drives the display, with a new multi-screen Activu system. As a result, the new video wall and controller now receive high definition input sources from newer traffic cameras. Also, operators now have the capability to drag and drop different sources across the expansive screen much like a traditional desktop computer. The previous system required operators to reconfigure the layout using proprietary software. In addition to the operational benefits, maintenance efforts have also been made easier since parts for the previous controller were becoming limited and expensive to find.
The video wall upgrade is part of the District’s larger effort to retro fit the control room and to enhance operator workflow as the ITS Program expands. This retro fit also includes the installation of new TMC operator work stations and is expected to begin in early 2015.
