District Six TSM&O Office Participates in FDOT’s New Employee Orientation Tours
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) Office hosted a tour for the District’s new hires on August 27, 2026. The tour is part of the agency’s new employee orientation (NEO) that is held every quarter to acclimate new staff with FDOT’s leadership and internal framework.
The NEO tour features a full day of meetings and presentations from department managers. New employees are educated about the role each unit plays within FDOT and how the units work together to achieve the agency’s mission of providing safe and reliable roadways. The goal is to provide foundational knowledge and empower new employees with the understanding about how their roles contribute to the regional transportation system in South Florida. The orientation starts with a welcome session hosted by the District Secretary and the Executive Team who introduce themselves and provide a comprehensive overview of the District. This is followed by a series of presentations from Human Resources, Office of Information Technology, and other pertinent departments. These presentations allow new employees to become familiar with critical staff and learn about important aspects that will impact their employment with FDOT.
The last portion of the orientation is a tour at the SunGuide Transportation Management Center (STMC) that houses the TSM&O Program Office. In this stop, new employees get a behind-the-scenes look at the STMC’s traffic control room and state-of-the-art video wall. They learn about the STMC’s services such as traffic management, incident management, and traveler information. TSM&O staff provide a presentation that highlights program statistics, major projects, and upcoming activities to showcase the breadth of the services. The STMC tour has provided added value to the orientation because it gives new employees a real-life demonstration of the mission critical services FDOT District Six delivers to the motoring public of South Florida every day.
